It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norma L. Montes on February 14, 2022. Norma was born on November 7, 1966 to Lydia Chavez and Barney Rue. She spent 41 years in love with her husband, Ray Montes. The absolute joys of her life were her grandchildren—Jacoby, Kaylie, Carmen, Clara, Scarlett, and Maya—and her children Tina and Mark, Andrea and Lucas, Thomas and Danielle, and Amanda and Alex. She is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren, as well as her mother, four brothers, sister, and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her father and brother. Norma committed over two decades of her life to the Ruidoso Municipal School system and will be greatly missed by her school family.
Norma was a kind soul who always thought of others first. She dedicated much of her life to helping run little league basketball and softball programs, baked and donated hundreds of biscochitos every Christmas, and always helped her family and friends in need. She was the kind of mom who held you close but let you follow your dreams, she picked up when you called, no matter what, and she loved unconditionally. Her family was her proudest accomplishment.
Norma was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Please join us to celebrate her life on Monday, February 21. The rosary will be held at St. Eleanor’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Ruidoso Hondo Valley Memorial Park. Immediately following the burial will be a reception at Burkham’s Barn.
In lieu of sending flowers to the family, consider donating to organizations, such as Autism Speaks, that advance knowledge and provide resources for individuals with autism, a cause Norma cared deeply about.
