Millicent Brown

Millicent Ann Basore was born on October 4, 1933, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to George and Maude Basore.  She graduated from Ponca City High School and attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

After working a year in Hawaii, she moved to Dallas, Texas, where she worked for the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Baptist Standard.  In 1974, Millicent married Douglas Grady Brown and they moved to Ruidoso, NM, in 1984.

Millicent returned to her university studies at East New Mexico University, graduating in 1997, with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and women’s studies.  She was always an avid reader and enjoyed freelance writing, publishing many articles and poems.

In 1999, she completed a chaplaincy program and enjoyed serving as a chaplain in Ruidoso and Alamogordo.  Millicent was an active member of First Baptist Church, Ruidoso.

Millicent passed away, Thursday, January 21st.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Elizabeth McBride, her brother Max Basore, and her beloved husband, Douglas Brown.  She is survived by nieces, Renee McBride of Durham, NC., Charlotte Young of Grand Prairie, Texas, nephew Todd McBride; and stepdaughters, Brandon Brown of Austin, Texas, and Pam Shinogle of Arlington, Texas.
