John Homerding

February 2, 1935 — October 6, 2022

John A. Homerding, resident of Ruidoso, NM, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years at home on October 6, 2022.

Born in Joliet, Illinois to John and Evelyn (Hassert) Homerding, John was raised on the family farm in Plainfield, Illinois.

John is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, John and Jimmy Homerding.

John is survived by his loving companion and caretaker Dianne Reed of Ruidoso; his brother Brian (Sharon) Homerding of Minooka, IL; and sister Gail (Bob) Bossarte of Boulder, Colorado.

John is also survived by his daughters: Laura Collins of Alto, NM, Lynda (Jim) Schuler of New Orleans, LA, Katie (Jake) Owens of Stanford, IL, and Hallie (Jared) Coulter of Walsenburg, CO. He was a grandfather to six grand children and five great grandchildren.

In high school, John was a member and officer of the FFA. He served in the Army after high school and was stationed in Germany.

John farmed and drove a semi for Chicago-St Louis Transport in the late 70's. He then moved to La Veta, Colorado to ranch. In the 1990's, he moved his ranching operation to New Mexico.

John had started training and racing quarter horses in the 1970's in Illinois and it remained his passion through life. When he retired from ranching, he went back to breeding, training, and racing quarter horses. He never lost his love it. John's favorite day was always one spent at the track.
