It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Winston Brien Cochise, who left us on December 4, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on August 13, 1970, in Mescalero, New Mexico, Winston was a proud member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, where he spent his life making lasting connections and sharing his talents with those around him.
A jack of all trades, Winston embraced many roles throughout his life, including serving as a firefighter, a reliable carpenter, and a supervisor for the maintenance team at the Mescalero Community Center. He also shared his passion for the outdoors by working at Ski Apache, and he loved nothing more than to spend time fishing whenever he could.
Winston is survived by his four beloved sons: Wacey, Dillon, Forrest, and Aiden Evans. He will be remembered fondly by his brothers Silas (Louann), Travis, Malachi, Winslow Rocha, and sisters Tina, Colleen, Bernalyn Cochise-Via, Millette (Angel) Saenz, Inez Jr., Anna, and Tazalynn, along with many other family members who loved him dearly.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones on December 10, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso. A Rosary will be held on December 11, 2025, at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at the Mescalero Community Center at 10:00 AM. Winston will be laid to rest following the service at Mescalero Cemetery.
We invite all who knew Winston to come together to celebrate his life and share memories of a man who touched so many lives in his community. His spirit and love will always remain with us.
Winston was preceded in death by his parents: Silas Cochise Sr and Inez Cochise Sr, as well as brothers: Christopher Cochise, Forrest Cochise, Freeman Cochise
