Wanda Walthall

Wanda Walthall died July 17th, 2015 in Ruidoso, NM. She was 85.

Wanda was born in Lubbock, Texas on April 16th, 1930, the eldest of two children bom to Mcna and Spurgeon Clark. She was a child of the Depression as they were bom to an itinerant father. Most of their years were spent growing-up with numerous relatives in the Texas Panhandle. She rose above these humble beginnings to graduate from Lubbock High School. Wanda married Walter Cecil Walthall, Jr., in 1951. The couple had three children, Bill, Mark and Demaris. She was a loving mother who successfully created a nurturing atmosphere that established and maintained a strong work ethic as well as high intellectual and moral guidelines.
After raising her children she began working for the Anton Independent School District as the secretary for the Superintendent. Later she worked for Griffin Oil as the executive secretary for Rip Griffin. She retired in 1995 and moved to Ruidoso where she lived for twenty years. While in Ruidoso she attended the First Baptist Church, volunteered for the Humane Society and shared many special times with family and friends.

Wanda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Demaris and Steve Fisher of Alto, NM; her son Mark Walthall of Carlsbad, NM; her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Debby Walthall of Atlanta GA; her brother Harold Clark of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Her grandchildren, Cecily and Brian Roberts, Eric and Victoria Walthall, Rachel and JDI Walthall, Kate and Kevin Henry and Matt Fisher and her three great grandchildren Logan and Chloe Roberts and Fisher Henry. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "GranWanda".

A celebration of life will be held on July 20th, 2015 at 3:00 at First Baptist Church, Ruidoso, NM.

The family asks of her friends that in lieu of flowers make donations to the NEST, a domestic violence shelter in Ruidoso Downs, NM.
