W. Smith

W. Wayne Smith, 74, of Ruidoso passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 in Ruidoso. He was born June 30, 1939 at Amarillo, Texas. Wayne moved to Ruidoso in January, 2004 from Fremont, California.

He was very active with Cree Meadows Country Club and Golf Course and was Past President of the Board of Directors, he was an avid golfer and was a former Club Champion, was Club Manager of Ruidoso Duplicate Bridge Club. He was also involved with the Lincoln County Food Bank and attended the First Christian Church. He was a retired insurance claims adjuster. He married Dean on August 7, 2010 in Ruidoso.

He is survived by his wife, Dean of Ruidoso two daughters, Ranita Whelchel of Amarillo, TX and Windy Jones and her husband Terry of Lockney, TX two sisters, Norma Greenroid of McKinney, TX and Joyce Lewellen of Oklahoma City, OK a brother, John Smith of Fremont, CA 4 grandchildren, Lexi Smith, Linsi Jones, Dustin Whelchel, and Derek Whelchel and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, April 28, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 29, at the First Christian Church at 3:00 PM with burial to follow at the Ruidoso Hondo Valley Cemetery.

The family has requested memorials to the Lincoln County Food Bank.
