Tony Chavez

Tony Chavez, 76, of Capitan passed on Monday, December 10, 2018 at his home in Capitan. He was born August 17, 1942 in Capitan to Damacio Chavez and Chonita Montoya Chavez and had lived all of his life in Capitan.

He was a cook at Ft. Stanton and the Senior Center in Capitan for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He married Rita Baca on June 11, 1992 in Capitan and is survived by his wife Rita of Capitan; his daughter, Andrea Chavez of Capitan; two brothers, Jake Chavez and his wife Ofelia of Capitan and Art Chavez and his wife, Tonya of Roswell; two sisters, Eva Delgado of Tularosa and Lydia Ortiz of Alamogordo and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Chavez, Jeff Chavez, Kenny Montes, Patrick Barela, Tristen Barela and Ethan Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers will be David Baca, Refugio Chavez, and Rudy Chavez.

Visitation will be Friday, December 14, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. The rosary service will be Saturday, December 15, at 9:30 A.M. in Sacred Catholic Church at Capitan with the funeral mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Capitan Cemetery.
