Thomas John Histen

Thomas John Histen, a renowned chef who dedicated his entire career to the culinary arts, passed away on January 27, 2024. Born on March 6, 1951, Thomas became well-known in culinary circles in La Jolla, CA, Aspen, CO, and Lincoln County, NM.

While Tom's professional accomplishments are impressive, it is his personal attributes that truly defined him. He was an amazing and dedicated father and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His love for them permeated every aspect of his life. Tom treasured spending quality time with loved ones and creating cherished memories together. His love of politics, current events, and being a steward for the environment helped spark lively debate with his circle of friends and family. Tom loved live music and frequently reunited with life-long friends to celebrate their time together.

Tom's passion for cooking and his unwavering dedication to his craft earned him respect and admiration from peers and patrons alike. Along with his remarkable talent in the kitchen, Tom also ventured into hydroponic farming when he relocated to Capitan, NM. He cooked with the lettuces and herbs he diligently grew in his own greenhouse.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Dawn Abbott, and Kimberly Robinson; grandchildren, Joshua Abbott, Hogan Abbott, Emmerson Abbott-Davis, Mark Robinson, and Ella Robinson; sisters, Eileen Histen, and Jeanne Brown; nephews, Derek Histen, Michael Brown, Timothy Brown, Gordon Brown, and Gregory Brown; niece, Kerry Blood; beloved dog Arrow, and two cats, Wiggy and Roger. He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen, and Harry J. Histen; brothers, Joseph Histen, and Harry Histen III. 

Thomas John Histen's presence will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of this exceptional individual, let us remember him for his immense love and dedication to his family and friends.
