Sofia G. Peso, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on February 3, 2026, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Born on November 5, 1942, in Tularosa, New Mexico, Sofia touched the lives of many in her community with her nurturing spirit and unwavering kindness.

For over twenty years, Sofia dedicated herself to the Mescalero Apache Tribe, serving as the Center Maintenance Supervisor, where her commitment and hard work were greatly admired. Sofia’s presence was a source of warmth and love; she possessed a remarkable gift for cooking, which spoke to everyone’s heart. You could feel her love in every meal she prepared, and her home was always open, providing a safe haven for those in need. She never turned anyone away, embodying the essence of compassion that will forever be remembered.

Sofia's adventurous spirit shone brightly, especially during her travel adventures across the country with her late husband, Frederick J. Peso, whose memory continued to live on in her heart. Throughout her life, she nurtured close bonds with her family and took great joy in being a mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her loving sons, Allen Peso, Dean Peso, and Roman Aldava; her cherished daughters Monica Peso and Kristie Moya; her dear grandchildren Toss Apachito, Flint Peso, Carlos Mendez, Talon Peso, Swan Kanseah, Tyrin Julius, Shandi Peso, Kyle Peso, Jessi Peso, Alicia Wells, Chad Peso, Chaya Franks, Landon Lester, Amariah Lester, and Elijah Lester; and her sister, Yollia Apodaca. Her family was her pride and joy, and her legacy will continue through each of them.

Sofia is preceded in death by her sons, Danny Peso, Karl Peso, and Dominick Peso; and her brothers Trinidad "Pate" Guilez, Mario P. Guilez, Mark Guilez, and Carlos Guilez.

Her favorite flower, the sunflower, symbolized her vibrant personality, while her cherished emerald color reflected the depth of her love for life and family. Sofia will be missed deeply, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those she touched.
