Sherwin Balatche-Magoosh

Prayer service for Sherwin Kirby Balatche-Magoosh, 53, of Mescalero will be Friday, June 15, at 6:00 PM in St. Joseph's Mission at Mescalero where the funeral mass will be on Saturday, June 16, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at the Mescalero Cemetery. Mr. Balatche-Magoosh passed away Thursday, June 14, in Mescalero. He was born April 11, 1954 in Mescalero to Linda Lou Balatche-Magoosh and Gerald Magoosh Sr., his mother precedes him in death. He had lived in Mescalero all of his life and worked various jobs in the Mescalero area which include working at Sierra Blanca Ski resort as a lift operator, the Recreation Department with the late Riley Chino and with the night crew at the community center. He left Mescalero briefly to attend and graduate from a heavy equipment operator school in Chicago, Illinois. When he returned to Mescalero he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, golfing and hanging out with friends and family but his real passion was singing with the Chee family or the Botella family at various blessings and cremonials, and of course you can't forget the 49's he participated in. Any feast gathering you saw Kirby at he always had a drum in hand ready to sing. He is survived by his father, Gerald Magoosh Sr.; sisters, Beverdine Tortilla, Debra Morgan and her husband Aldridge, Gerlinda Coonie and her husband Hubert Sr., Myra LaPaz, and Garnett LaPas; brothers, Gerald Magoosh Jr., Lionel Magoosh and his wife, Cathy, Christie LaPaz Jr. and his wife Pearlita, Patrick LaPaz and his wife Emma; aunts and uncles, Velda and Daniel Garcia Sr., Ceda and Joseph Shanta, Elaine Valdez, Nadina Rice, Sandra Balatche, Ester Balatche and Fawn Via, William Magoosh III, Quintin Balatche, Cordell and Rita Balatche, Norbert and Janice Via and numerous nephews and nieces.
