Chief Warrant Officer Sammy Dale Zuber, born on January 27, 1936, in a time that would shape his remarkable life, passed away on November 14, 2025. He left an indelible mark on everyone who was privileged enough to know him.

Sammy proudly served in the United States Navy, where he distinguished himself as a retired military diver. His service was not just a duty; it was a lifelong passion and one of the greatest pleasures of his existence. He was honored to serve his country and was among the pioneering divers in the United States to achieve the extraordinary feat of a 600-foot dive while a member of the Navy Experimental Unit—a true testament to his skill and bravery.

Outside of his military career, Sammy's adventurous spirit was reflected in his hobbies and interests. He was an avid hunter who cherished countless hunting adventures alongside his beloved wife and grandson. Their time spent together in the great outdoors created lasting memories that will forever resonate in their hearts. Sammy was also a voracious reader, firmly believing that no one could ever have too many books. His thirst for knowledge and stories connected him to countless worlds beyond his own. Furthermore, his deep-seated love for the ocean never wavered, and he seized every opportunity to board a cruise liner, embracing the chance to sail around the world and experience the beauty of the sea.

Sammy's proudest accomplishment will always remain his dedicated service in the United States Navy, which shaped not only his own life but also inspired those around him with tales of valor and honor. He leaves behind a legacy of bravery, adventure, and a deep appreciation for life lived fully.

Sammy is survived by his daughters, Tammy Lee Chambers of Ruidoso, New Mexico and husband Delton Chambers, and Sandra Lynn Wood of Carlsbad, New Mexico and husband James Wood; grandchildren, James Wood, Timothy Wood, Chantell Rhea (Lozano), W. Christopher Zuber, Steven Richard Babcock, and Brandon Lewis Babcock; great grandchildren, Jarrod Wood, Moreen Delacruz, Hunter Zuber, Ean Zuber, Madison Rhea, and Morgan Flowers; great great grandchild, Millie Mae Wood; brother, Gary Zuber; sister, Donna Livermore; and his beloved dog and best friend, Ginger. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Francis Zuber; parents, Leola and Robert Zuber; great granddaughter, Meredith Rhea; and his beloved pets, Gretchin, Tasha, and Ceci.
