A dedicated teacher, Ruby immersed herself in the culture and traditional ways of the Mescalero Apache. She played an instrumental role in teaching the Apache language, ensuring the continuation of her people's rich heritage. Her lifelong passion for education extended beyond the classroom; she dedicated herself to instilling the values and traditions that define the Mescalero Apache identity.
Ruby's personal interests reflected her creative spirit. She found joy in beadwork and sewing, pursuits that connected her to her roots and allowed her to express her artistic vision. Through her hands, she crafted pieces that resonated with history and storytelling, bringing forth the essence of her cultural identity.
In her farewell, Ruby leaves behind her cherished family. She is survived by her devoted son, Rory Chino, and her beloved daughters, Victoria J. Martinez and Mikayla L. Chino. The joy of her life was multiplied by her grandchildren: Elsa M. Chino, Rihanna R. Chino, Lilliana J. Martinez, and Margarito R. Martinez; as well as her great-grandchild, Alicio Leon Chino Apache. Ruby also shared a special bond with her siblings, including David Shanta, Barry Shanta, and sister Donna Stern, along with her loving extended family: Joyce Stern, Bernadine Chino, Emma LaPaz, Loretta Klinekole, Mark Chino, Selena Chino, Velda Garcia, Patrice Valdez, James Kunetsis, Marietta Bigmouth, Douglas Klinekole, Rena Mendez, Barbra Monte, Nicole Stern, Daniel McFadden, and Donnell McFadden.
Ruby's passing brings a poignant silence to the hearts of many, yet within that silence resides the echoes of her laughter, her teachings, and her indomitable spirit. She is reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, including Elsie Chino, Martha J. Chino, and Margarito G. Rivera. The Funeral Service for Ruby will be held on July 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Mescalero Reformed Church. Burial will follow at Mescalero Cemetery with Daniel McFadden, Donnell McFadden, Raymond J. Martinez, Derwin Bigmouth, Sterlying Bigmouth, and Douglas Klinekole serving as pallbearers. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor a life that was lived with purpose, dedication, and unparalleled love.
