Rose Montes

Rose C. Montes went home to be with our Lord on February 12, 2022, in Albuquerque, NM. Rose grew up in Capitan where she graduated and lived out her life. She married Alfred L. Montes in 1958. They were married 63 years.

She worked at Fort Stanton in the 70’s and 80’s. First as a nurse’s aide at the infirmary and then became a Procurement Specialist in the office. She became passionate about equal rights and was a representative for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also held various offices in the Carpenters Union.

She decided to stay at home where she loved to paint, read and grow flowers. She loved her grandchildren and attended their ball games, 4H and FFA activities.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Alfred L. Montes, her parents Epifanio and Manuelita Carvajal, her brother Joaquin Leandro Carvajal. Rose is survived by her son Ronnie Montes of Capitan, daughters Lilly Bradley of Capitan and Yvonne Rich (Dennis Rich) of Capitan, grandchildren Ronnie Montes (Kiera Treers), Cory Montes, Maggie Rich, Madison Tracey and Zachary Rich.

A graveside service will be held at the Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery on February 25, 2022, at 1:30 pm.
