Roger Sowder

September 10, 1944 — July 3, 2015

Roger Lynn Sowder, age 70, was born on September 10, 1944 in Muleshoe, Tx. A resident of Alto, New Mexico for 32 years passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2015 at his beloved Alto home surrounded by family.
Roger was extremely lovable, adventurous, entertaining and talented. An actor of the best kind who never met a stranger. He loved his family, friends and his career in early childhood education.
He was a devoted husband, brother, cousin, granddad, father and a friend to many.
Roger graduated from Eastern New Mexico University, where he played football. aHe began his career with 13 years of teaching in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He later became principal at Nob Hill Early Childhood Center in Ruidoso, New Mexico where he spent 20 years loving, teaching, and entertaining young children. Roger loved music and played guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He loved acting and won many awards while participating in the Lincoln County Little Theater.
Words cannot describe how much Roger (a.k.a Granddad) will be missed!

He is survived by his Wife and Caretaker, Marsha Sowder Alto, NM; a sister Janice Farris & husband James "Dub" of San Antonio, TX; a brother Archie "Joe" Sowder of Muleshoe, TX; He leaves behind cousins who were like siblings , all of them raised on farms in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. He treasured his many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his step children Maggie Griego, Ginni Naegle, Monica Naegle, Johnny & Christine Naegle, Garrett & Jane Naegle and Sam & Joanna Naegle.
Granddad Rog will be missed by 11 grandchildren: Venus Valdez-Brown, Lilli Valdez, Mateo Griego-Manley, Brian John Ackert, Jenika Collins, Savanna Collins, Jason Adams, Jasmine Adams, Jarrett Naegle, Julia Naegle and Huxley Naegle. And 2 Great-grandchildren: Andi Brown and Isabella Rodrigues.
He was proceeded in death by: his father, and mother Everett & Opal Sowder, his brothers Bill & Mick Sowder, his sisters Betty Sowder & Frankie Loter and step son Matthew Griego.

A memorial service to celebrate Roger's wonderful life will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Alto Lakes Country Club and Golf Course, 1 Country Club Dr., Alto, NM

A light reception will also follow at the Country Club, where you can share all of the great Roger stories with each other!
