Robert Lomax

October 14, 1931 — May 20, 2021

Ruidoso, NM

Robert Leslie Lomax was born October 10, 1931, and passed away in the early morning of Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the age of 89.  He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado and lived in Leadville for most of his early life before moving to various places, including California and Florida for work before retiring to Ruidoso.

He is preceded in death by two siblings, he had four children, three precede him in death, four grandchildren and several distant nieces and nephews.  He grew up in the time of the Great Depression and lost his father at the age of 15, while his mother had divorced his father around the age of 10.  He was hard working and self-reliant, but he also fell in love and got married before he was 25.  Due to his strong beliefs and no-nonsense attitude, he graduated from Colorado College with several degrees and even joined the Marines during the Korean War, serving from 1950 – 1952 and achieving the rank of Sergeant.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Valerie Lomas age 26, his sole living child, John Lomax age 54, and his distant relatives most of whom live in Australia or have cut contact for over 10 years.  He is also survived by his many friends, who make this burial and memorial service possible as he just wanted to be cremated and his cremated remains scattered.  But due to the overwhelming amount of love and support he has achieved by being good friends with so many good people we, Valeria and a few of his Marine buddies have decided to have him buried at Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery.

His service will be Friday, July 9, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery with a memorial lunch following at the White Mountain Pavilion located at 431 White Mountain Meadows in Ruidoso.
