Richard Lurix

June 7, 1943 — February 1, 2015

On Sunday, February 1, 2015 Richard Alan Lurix went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. His passing leaves a void in his family, with his friends and in the community, yet he now fully lives in the presence of his Savior.

Rich was born on June 7, 1943 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Walter Henry Lurix and Regina Edna Goudreau and grew up in Milford, Connecticut. He was a ROTC graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Connecticut and proudly served his country through the United States Army. Rich was active duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1969.

However, it was the day he met his life partner, Sharon Jean Lane at UConn that his life forever changed. After marriage, Rich and Sharon were stationed in Virginia and Arizona before they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Rich started his business career at Proctor and Gamble. Eventually, Rich started their own business as Employee Benefits Specialists at Lurix and Associates.

On October 1, 2000 Rich and Sharon started their new life in the mountains of Ruidoso, NM. Besides seeing Rich on the pickleball courts or golf course, you could also find him serving others throughout the community. He was the project manager for the Kidz Konnection playground, was involved in NM Search & Rescue, Leadership Lincoln, Lincoln County Prayer Breakfast, Lincoln County Community Theater and volunteered as an AARP Tax Aid Preparer. Rich also served on church committees and was a dedicated leader of a Life Group Bible Study in their home.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Ruidoso; two daughters, Shana Gardner and husband Clint of Coleman, TX and Amy Lurix of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, David Lurix and wife Sheila of Bolivia, North Carolina and Wayne Lurix and wife Karen of Cincinnati, Ohio; Aunt Elizabeth Simpkins of Tallahassee, Florida; nephews Carl Lurix, Brett Lurix and nieces Kerry Ahern and Darcy Lurix.

Rich was a devoted family man and will be deeply missed by many. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church Ruidoso, Monday, February 9 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ruidoso Food 4 Kids Backpack Program or Lone Tree Camps.
