Richard Dolphin

Richard "Dick" M. Dolphin of Ruidoso, NM passed away on June 3, 2018 at the age of 88. Dick was born in Bloomfield, NE on July 15,1929 to Lura Grace (Hall) and John Murray Dolphin. He attended Bloomfield High School where he graduated in 1947, after graduating he went to Junior College and then joined the Navy serving the Korean War. Dick worked for and retired from both United Parcel Service and Conoco Phillips. He married Mary Karnes on November 3,1951 in Santa Maria, CA.

Since moving to Ruidoso in 2005 Dick has been a very dynamic member of the Community United Methodist Church. He was a member of Methodist Men, participated in and helped organize mission trips and Walks to Emmaus and was the "go-to" guy for fixing anything needing repair at the church or the parsonage. He also joined the Kairos Prison Ministry team and was a very strong advocate for starting the church-sponsored Boy Scout Troop 59. In addition, he was a regular volunteer at the Ruidoso Food Bank as well as a Kiwanis supporter.

Prior to moving to Ruidoso in 2005, Dick was also a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Las Vegas, NV, since 1976. He provided the same dedication to the Trinity congregation. Dick was known for always having a cheerful smile and greeting and for always putting others first.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary, of Ruidoso; children Susan Dolphin of San Antonio, TX and Rich Dolphin of Ruidoso, NM; grandchildren Joshua Dolphin of Tuscaloosa, AL and Sarah Dolphin of Lubbock, TX and great grandson Kaiden Dolphin, also of Tuscaloosa, AL.

He was preceded in death by his brothers John and William, and sisters, Clareline Hawk and Gladys Dolphin.

The memorial service will be Friday, June 8 at Community United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Community United Methodist Building Fund or Lincoln County Humane Society.
