Peter B. Renich slipped peacefully away on October 23, 2021 at his home in Capitan, NM. Born on May 28, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI, Peter migrated to the Village of Capitan in 1997. Thrifty and rugged, he constructed a 12 x 12 foot shed where he lived while building his permanent home at 133 Lavano Drive. Peter was dedicated to the Village’s welfare; over the years, he served on the Planning Board, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, and as Chairperson of the annual Smoky Bear Parade. He also developed and maintained the Village website.
A graphic artist, he graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute and earned his Master’s Degree from Bowling Green University in Ohio. As a young man, he served in the US Army.
Peter will be dearly remembered by family and friends—for the lives he touched, his artistic talent, his brilliant sense of humor, and for his generous spirit.
He is survived by his daughter, Meghan E. Renich and grandson Jackson Gallo Renich, of Delmar, NY; by his daughter, Jennifer K. Griffin, of Allentown, PA, and grandchildren Avery Foreman, of Warrington, PA and Gray Griffin, of Temecula, CA; and by his sister, Jo Ellen Mulder, of Germantown, WI, his niece, Susan Kaatz, of Elgin, IL, and his nephew, Timothy Mulder, of Germantown, WI.
Interested persons can make donations in Peter’s name to the Capitan Public Library.
