Patricia Spurlin

Patricia Louise “Patty” Spurlin went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 14, 2022 at the age of 85.

Patty was born in Carlsbad, NM to Hershel A. Harty and Mary Frances Farrell.

She grew up in Carlsbad and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1954 and earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the last class of New Mexico A&M, Las Cruces in 1958.

Her cousin Billy introduced her to her husband, Odell when they were in Junior High School. After going their separate ways after graduation, they both returned to Carlsbad and started dating in 1959.

On January 16, 1960, She and Odell were married. They lived in Carlsbad and had their first son, Eddy.  Shortly after, they moved to Roswell where Patty was a Home Extension Agent.  In Roswell, they adopted their second son, Pat, their daughter Mandy and raised Patty’s sister, Susan as one of their own.

In 1974 the family returned to Carlsbad where Patty started her career in Real Estate.  1985 they found their way to Ruidoso where Patty continued to sell real estate. Later she and Odell opened ShowTime Video and Photo until they retired.

Patty was a spunky individual who loved her kids and grandkids fiercely. One could usually find her cooking something in the kitchen. From candy making to crochet, knitting, and sewing, she was always creating something. She and Odell frequently traveled to their home San Carlos, Mexico to enjoy the ocean and the warm weather.

Patty is survived by her husband Odell Spurlin of Ruidoso, Son, Eddy Spurlin and wife Jill of Albuquerque, NM,  Son, Pat Spurlin and wife LeiRonna of Austin, TX, Daughter, Mandy Mader and husband David of Ruidoso, NM, granddaughter, Stevie Spurlin of Palmer, AK, granddaughter, McKinsie Rutherford and husband Corban of Murfreesboro, TN, grandson, Eric Spurlin, of Albuquerque, NM, granddaughter, Hannah Mader of Las Cruces, NM, grandson Joshua Mader of Las Cruces, NM, great-grandson, Connor Rutherford of Murfreesboro, TN, sister, Susan Dade and Randy of Artesia, NM, along with many loved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Mount Saturday January 29 at 10 am. The church has requested everyone wear masks during the service. There will be a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Community United Methodist Church.
