Pat L. Huey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2024, at the age of 85. He was surrounded by loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
Pat was born on April 3, 1939, in Gran Quivira, NM, to Kenneth A. and Gertrude Harrison Huey. He grew up in Claunch, NM, attended high school in Corona and Capitan, and developed an early passion for sports. He went on to play football and study geology at the University of Tulsa.
Pat had a deep love for sports, gardening, ranching, his family, friends, and FOX News. He dedicated his life to general contracting, approaching every project with a passion for perfection. He served the Capitan School Board of Education for 12 years and retired from the Capitan Volunteer Fire Department after 25 years, many of which he served as Chief. Known for his kindness, humor, and strength, Pat made a lasting impact on all who knew him. Friends and family remember him as a loyal and compassionate individual with a great smile and a quick sense of humor.
He shared a special bond with his wife, Idell, with whom he spent 60 joyful years. Pat took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, instilling in them values of honesty, a strong work ethic, and common sense.
Throughout his life, Pat exemplified courage, generosity, and resilience. He was always ready with a joke, willing to lend a helping hand, and welcomed visitors who stopped by to reminisce and share stories. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, caring for his livestock, and operating heavy equipment.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Idell Whitaker Huey; his daughters, Kandie Daves, Patti (Jim) Nesbitt, and Becky Huey; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth D. Huey; and many close friends who will continue to honor his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jerry, Billy, and Thomas Huey, and his sisters Delores McInnes and Glenda Perry.
The family invites you to a celebration of Pat's life on Friday, December 6, at 10 a.m. in the Capitan High School Trailor Gym, with a potluck and fellowship to follow.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the first responders, law enforcement, and EMTs who provided support. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing.
