Nancy Ann Bucklin, only child of Frank and Eunice Bucklin, was born in Olean, New York on May 11, 1940. She grew up to the age of twelve when the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas as a result of her father’s career change. She finished her high school education there. At the age of fifteen she met and dated her future husband, Frank Scott Otey III. At the age of nineteen, married with two daughters, she seriously began her search for God and truth. By age thirty she became a member, was baptized and attended the Worldwide Church of God for the next twenty-five years. During this time her husband was concentrated on building a business career with no interest in religion. The children attended church with their mother. At age twenty-one the family moved into their first home in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. During grade school time Nancy played a key role in the children’s upbringing and education as a bluebird and girl scout leader and held various offices in the school’s PTA. The city of Irving rapidly outgrew itself and developed a compromised education system. With this in mind the family made a second move to a home in Grand Prairie, Texas, a nearby suburb of Dallas. Around age fifty, a long standing health issue surfaced with the medical understanding that it was life threatening. That prompted a decision to move to Santa Fe, New Mexico, with a few short years of going back and forth, with Scott working diligently to move his vast and varied business career, they made their permanent and final move to Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1993 where they both resided until their deaths.
While living here through the decades Scott and Nancy were very active and contributing member of the ever changing community. At the age of sixty-eight Nancy began a fifteen year role as care giver to her husband’s battle with progressive dementia. At the age of eighty-seven Scott preceded Nancy in death in October of 2023. The death was instant and unexpected and left her with financial business to resolve. She has spent the last few years of her life, nonstop, being able to joyfully contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to the various aspects of God’s kingdom work on earth. Over the years Nancy has been involved in a multitude of jobs, volunteer projects, and clubs. Western Union Telegraph Operator, policy typist for the insurance industry, travel agent, florist for the Dallas Naval Air Station, Nancy the Nature Nanny decorating business. She taught classes at the local community college and High Mesa Healing Center, started a foster care program for the local Humane Society, Tanglefoot Square Dancers, Garden Club, and Southwest Art Designers Guild, bird club, photography club, hiking club, Red Hat Society, food bank, and Pickleball.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her oldest daughter, Kim Lynn Otey; and her husband, Frank Scott Otey III. She is survived by her daughter Dana Otey; brother and sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews. Nancy has attended Grace Harvest Church for the last nineteen years.
