Martin Schneider Cudlip Jr., longtime resident of the Alamogordo and Cloudcroft area, passed away October 15, 2017. Marty was born in Washington, D.C. on August 2, 1931 to Martin Cudlip Sr. and Elizabeth Rose Hinerman.

Marty was raised in the Washington, D.C. area and after graduation he moved to Florida and joined the Sea Scouts. Two years later he enlisted into the Army and was eventually assigned to the radar division at Holloman Air Force Base at Oscura Peak. He was very proud of his military service and upon discharge he continued to work through civil service as a radar technician at King 1 until his retirement in 1987.

He married Doris Wilkerson Black on January 30, 1960 and instantly became father to her two children, Larry and Jana. He was a wonderful father and husband, always kind, patient and caring. He loved spending time with his family, sharing stories or intricate details about a special project or plan. His favorite hobbies were woodworking and electronics. In 1973, he moved his family to the beautiful Sacramento Mountains to pursue his dream of building a cabin but sadly lost his wife Doris in 1989 before it was complete. Upon his retirement he moved to Tularosa and worked for the Lincoln National Forest Service taking supplies to the fire crews and as a security officer until he was 79 years old. During this time he met a very special companion, Betty Hobbs, and they shared 21 years together. They loved returning to the mountains at every opportunity to visit with family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Larry Black (Pauletta Farrar) and daughter, Jana Bookout-Bracamonte (Edward) both of Tularosa; grandchildren, Timothy Black of Temecula, CA, Anna Wallace (Robert) of Frederick, OK, Frank Black of Tularosa, NM, Ashlyn Williams of Yuma, AZ, Jason Bookout and Jennifer Norton (James) of Tularosa, John Bookout (Jodie) of Deming, NM, Robert Morgan (Evelyn) of Omaha, NE, Daniel Bracamonte of Orlando, FL, Amanda Kernohan (Jamie) of Alamogordo; great grandchildren, Wesley and Wade Wallace, Skylar and Luna Robinson, Kianna, Michael and Danelo Williams, Dustin White, Ariel and Sierra Bookout, Jessie Bookout, Taylor Hobson, Abigail and Kora Norton, Aubrey Cooper, Riley Patterson, Ruben, Ryder, Ryndon and Rance Bookout, Kaelynn, Syvanna and Sydney Morgan, Lucan Bracamonte, Cody and Ezeriah; great-great grandchildren, Chasity and Peyton Lacey, Lyncoln Lambert, Kowa and Briella White. He is also survived by his extended family, Betty Hobbs of Tularosa; daughters Mozell Sparks and Velma Paxton (Joe) of Capitan, NM, Wynell Kenemore (Ronnie) of Maljamar, NM; son Waddy Hobbs (Karen) of Roswell, NM; and their children, Samantha Tebelius, Ty, Bo, and Falon Sparks, Kallea Dickson, Kate Ward, Tee Kenemore, Cody and Ladonna Arnold, Jennifer Williams, and John Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Clarence and Elta Hinerman; mother, Elizabeth Hinerman; wife, Doris Cudlip; son in-law, Jackie Bookout; and daughter in-law, Lolita Black.

Family and friends have entrusted him to the care of LaGrone's Funeral Home of Ruidoso, NM for cremation. No services are scheduled but the family will be gathering to celebrate Marty's life on October 28, 2017 at Jason's house in Tularosa (950 Railroad) at noon.
