Marie Carlin Slaten

Marie Carlin Slaten, age 71, passed away on December 31, 2023. She was born on July 17, 1952, in Hobbs, New Mexico to the late Bruce and William Carlin.

Marie was a voracious reader that worked for the village of Ruidoso for 23 years. Aside from loving her books, she loved music, skiing, sewing and her animals. She was a hard-working single mother who loved her girls more than anything else. She loved listening to people’s stories and making friends.

We will miss her love, laughter, and her loving arms around us.

She is survived by her daughters, Caitlin Marie Whitley and her son in law Ryan Whitley, and Shelby Slaten and partner Chris Kasovia; grandchildren, Livia Elizabeth Whitley, and Cooper McNeill Whitley; and many other family members. Marie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pamela Howard; and brothers, William Carlin, and Timothey Carlin.

A celebration of life will be held on February 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Gateway Church in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
