It is with heavy hearts and warm memories that we celebrate the life of Margaret Jane Cojo, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, who left us too soon on April 29, 2026, at the age of 43. Born on April 15, 1983, in Alamogordo, NM, Margaret blossomed into a talented photographer whose love for capturing life's beautiful moments brought joy to everyone around her.
Margaret's passions extended beyond photography; she was an artist in the kitchen, with a flair for cooking and baking that delighted family and friends alike. An adventurous soul, she found peace shed hunting, reveled in fishing trips, and enjoyed traveling with loved ones. Her knack for shawl making was just one of many crafts that showcased her creative spirit. Margaret cherished family time, often choosing to spend cozy evenings watching sports with her husband, Spencer Cojo, and sharing laughter-filled conversations.
She is survived by her loving husband, Spencer; her vibrant children, Daniel and Miley; her devoted father, David Shanta; her caring mother, Myra LaPaz; and a large, supportive family that includes brothers Derrick Blake, Randy Tazaah, and Elijah Blake, and sisters Tara, Chrislynn, and Tamerah Shanta. Margaret's legacy will live on through her nieces: Lorraine Damon, Adriel Valdez, Taylor Ruiz, Brielynn Valdez, Lani Cojo, Raleigha Kazhe, Angel Kazhe, September Kazhe, Amelia Cojo, and Athena Cojo; and nephews: Marcos Shanta, Jackson Ruiz, Anson Damon, Coleson Valdez, Ezekiel Cojo, and Seth Kahze who will carry her generosity and creativity in their hearts.
Margaret was proud of her education, having earned both an associate and bachelor's degree after graduating high school. She was a beacon of strength and inspiration, uniquely blending beauty, resilience, and kindness in everything she did.
To celebrate Margaret's life, a viewing will be held at LaGrone Funeral Chapel on May 4, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00PM. Following this, a Rosary will take place at St. Joseph Apache Mission at 6:00 PM. Finally, join us on May 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM for the Mass of Christian Burial also at St. Joseph Apache Mission.
Let us gather together, share stories, and rejoice in the memories of a woman who captured life's essence and filled our hearts with love. Margaret, you will be dearly missed, but your spirit will forever shine brightly in our lives.
Margaret was preceded in death by: paternal grandmother Margaret Shanta, maternal grandparents Christie Lapaz Sr., and Elizabeth Lapaz, and aunt Lillian Lester.
