Margaret (Martinez) Chavez, 96, of Carrizozo passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at her home in Carrizozo surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 25, 1919 in Carrizozo to Refugio and Juan Martinez.
She married Ruben Chavez on October 16, 1937. She was a homemaker and a member of Santa Rita's Catholic Church where she taught C.C.D. She loved crossword puzzles, quilting and travelling. She also enjoyed the time she spent traveling with Ruben and their children while he worked with Southern Pacific Railroad.
She is survived by her children, Ruben Chavez Jr. and his wife Mary Jane, Evelyn Long and her husband James, Patty Saucedo and her husband Max and Sandra Lopez and her husband, Horacio; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ruben Chavez, Refugio and Juan, and a daughter, Bonnie Proffit.
The family would like to give thanks to her good friend, Mrs. Jovita Torres for her continual support.
As per Margaret's and Ruben's wishes, they will be joined together once again as a symbol of their everlasting love on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Carrizozo.
Across the years I will walk with you. In deep green forests and shores of sand. And when our time on earth is through, in heaven too you will have my hand.
