After returning from his service and throughout his lifetime, Mannie held various jobs such as butcher, carpenter, welder, caretaker, and water operator. In 2010, he retired from Alto Lakes Water and Sanitation District. Mannie served 16 years as Mayor of the Town of Carrizozo; some of his accomplishments included building of the Detention Center and new City Hall, improving numerous streets and the railroad crossing, and creating the Veteran's Park.

Mannie married Mary Schlarb on Mar. 11, 1972. They made their home in Carrizozo, New Mexico, where they raised their two daughters. Mannie and Mary enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage for over 45 years.
