Lloyd Call

Lloyd Lynn Call, 87, went to be with his Lord on April 26, 2014. His loving wife, Vangie, was at his side. He was born March 16,1928, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Finis and Hattie Call. Lloyd and Vangie were residents of Ruidoso, New Mexico, for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Vangie Call of Ruidoso stepdaughter, Evangeline Brown and husband Jim, of Oakland, California two stepgranddaughters, Maria and Rachel, of Oakland a nephew, Lloyd Randle Call and wife Cathy, of Lubbock a nephew Larry Dean Call, of Oregon a niece, VaLinda Newhouse and husband Ron, of Bryan, Texas a niece, Sharla Steele and husband Cody, of Lubbock, Texas four greatnieces and 8 great nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Finis and Hattie Call his brother and sisterinlaw, Lewis and Lucille Call his brother and sisterinlaw, Buford Truman and Mary Jane Call and his great niece Kerri Gwyn Call.

Lloyd grew up in Clovis and graduated from Clovis public schools. He received his B.S. from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico, with an education degree. He taught sixth grade at L.L. Brown Elementary, in Portales. From there he traveled to Japan and taught for two year. He acquired many lifelong friendships in Japan.
After returning to the states, Lloyd moved to Portales, where he was employed by E.N.M.U. as a recruiter. While on a recruiting trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lloyd met the love of his life, Vangie Lujan. They were married for fortysix years, residing in Portales and Ruidoso.

Lloyd loved music. He was raised learning about music, how to play the guitar, and developing a beautiful singing voice. His lifelong goal was to entertain and to break into the music business. While living in Clovis, Lloyd frequented the Norman Petty Music Studio. This studio is the musical birthplace of Buddy Holly. There Lloyd met Buddy Holly. At one point Lloyd assisted Buddy in learning a new guitar cord for one of Buddys songs.

Lloyd hosted several bus tours to Branson, Missouri, with Vangie by his side. Each time, he entertained the bus with his singing and his guitar playing. Lloyd and Vangie enjoyed their membership at the Cree Meadows Country Club. On many occasions Lloyd would sit in with the band, singing andor playing his guitar.

Lloyd retired from service with the National Guard, earning the rank of Captain.
Lloyd and Vangie were members of the First Christian Church of Ruidoso. Vangie would like to send her sincere and deepest appreciation to the loving support and encouragement of the members of the Christian Church, the Mescalero Care Facility, and their dear friends and family.

Lloyd will be fondly remembered for his quick humor, his warm personality, and his goodheartedness. Lloyd never met a stranger.
