Melissa Gayle Townley, commonly known as Lisa or Sissy to many family and friends, was born on June 10, 1958 in Portales, New Mexico to Lela Jo and Samuel H. Townley. Her family moved to Capitan, New Mexico in 1972. Lisa had many passions but above all else she put her family first. She had a great passion and love for skiing. She taught skiing to the handicapped and the youth. She could ski on all levels including black diamond and creating her own trails. She obtained her CNA license and helped many in the community with home health care, including her own mother. She loved to can, cook, garden, fish, hike, and ride horses. She was very proud of her native American heritage and loved beading, once even having a tee pee erected on her property. Lisa was a very spiritual person. She believed in God and could often be found reading her Bible. Above all her accomplishments, she was the most proud being a mother to her two sons.
Lisa is survived by her sons, Oakley (Heather), and Joshua; grandson, Ashton; sisters, Merri, and Micki; brother, Sam (Nancy); nieces, Joey (Ronnie), Amanda, and Jesse; nephew, Anthony; great nieces, Audra, and Logan; great nephew, Ethan; Andres Monroe Gomez; and many dear, special, and beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lela Jo Townley; brothers, Scotty Townley, and Larry Townley; and her beloved dogs, Maggie, Blue, and Riddick.
