Lela Josephine (Moore) Townley, also affectionately known as Jo Townley, passed away at her home in Capitan, on December 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Lela was born on March 26, 1936, in El Paso, Texas, to Bruce Lawrence Moore and Olivia Lois (Cate) Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr., and Mrs. B.L. Moore. Her husband, Samuel H. Townley, Jr. Her sons, Jeffrey S. Townley, Larry H Townley.
Lela Jo is survived by her children: Sammy B. Townley, (Nancy Chavez) of Capitan, Lisa G. Farran, of Nogal, N.M. Mick A. Martin., Merri L. Townley, of Rancho Belago, CA.
Five grandchildren, Oakley H, Farran (Heather Paniagua), of Salt Lake City, Utah. Amanda J. Martin. Joey Rooks (Ronnie Winney) of Apple Valley, CA. Anthony S. Townley, of Rancho Belago, CA, and Joshua D. Farran-Gomez of Ruidoso, NM.
Two great grandchildren: Ashton H. Farran of Salt Lake City, Utah. Audra G. Winney of Apple Valley, CA. And numerous nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.
Lela Jo, worked as head cook, Supervisor at Capitan Public School Cafeteria for 15 years. She also worked 10 years at Fort Stanton State Hospital. Where she made many lifelong friends. She also worked as a caregiver for 20 years, caring for many elderly people, until she was 80 years old.
She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and the community of Capitan, N.M.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Enhabit Homecare and Hospice. Special thanks to hospice nurse, Beth St. Germain. Also, Ambercare, home health aide Jessie Rooks. Special thanks to Capitan Church of Christ for providing support to the family during our time of grief.
