Lela Thomas

Lela M. Thomas, 96, of Ruidoso passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Alamogordo. She was born June 17, 1918 at Fredrick, Oklahoma to Edward and Ethel Chubbick Klase.

She married Arthur A. Thomas in 1948 and they moved to Ruidoso in 1971 from Midland, Texas. She was a bookkeeper and housewife. She worked with Christian Services of Lincoln County to help the needy for a number of years. She was an avid seamstress and loved working with crafts. She also loved her gardening and birds. She was very active in Gateway Church of Christ and studied the Bible on a daily basis.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, a son, Gary Thomas in 1998, her parents, four brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula Giarratano of Ruidoso five grandchildren, Becky Au and her husband Javier of Las Cruces, Ryan Benson and his wife Sandy of Yoder, Colorado, Heather ThomasVasquez and her husband Jerry of Beaumont, Texas, Jamie Thomas and her husband Jesse Reynolds of Ruidoso and Michael Giarratano and his wife Faith of Ruidoso.

Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 15, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 10:00 AM until Noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM on Monday at Gateway Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruidoso.
