John Nicholas Smith

John Nicholas (Nickey) Smith was born to John Lela K Smith and Mary Doris Meyers Smith on December 10, 1947 in Lamesa, Texas.

He resided in Lamesa the majority of his life. He was a crop insurance agent for 37 years.

Nickey lost a hard fought 5-year battle with Multiple Myeloma on May 26, 2026 at his home in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary and his son, Ted Smith, cousins Charles Meyers, Lucy Meyers, Amy Meyers, and Scott Reddin. Also surviving are dear friend and caregiver, Olivia Garves and his beloved little dog, Pockets.

In lieu of a memorial service Nickey requested that friends and family do a good deed in his memory.
