John Frank Melaski, a beloved friend, skilled craftsman, and dedicated community member, passed away on April 29, 2026. Born on December 4, 1946, John lived a life marked by kindness and generosity, qualities that endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

John’s career was distinguished and steadfast. He served with pride as the district manager of U-Haul until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, he chose to make his home in the scenic town of Ruidoso, New Mexico, where he became an integral part of the community. His professional life was marked not only by leadership but also by a genuine commitment to those around him.

Beyond his career, John was a gifted craftsman, particularly skilled in woodworking. His workshop was more than just a place of work—it was a sanctuary of patience and creativity. There, he lovingly crafted keepsakes that many close to him now cherish, each piece a testament to his care and meticulous artistry. His legacy, reflected in these tangible works of art, has been carved into the lives of friends and family alike.

John took great pride in his association with fraternal organizations, including his role as a proud member of the Ruidoso Masonic Lodge and the El Maida Shriners of El Paso, Texas. His involvement in these groups reflected his dedication to service, fellowship, and community, principles he held dear throughout his life.

Above all, John was known for his kindness. He was a friend to all, a steady presence who brought warmth and compassion wherever he went. He leaves behind a legacy that has been deeply imprinted on the hearts of many, a legacy that reminds us of the profound impact one person can have through simple acts of goodwill and enduring friendship.

He is survived by his wife, Karen S. Melaski; son, Jason Melaski and husband Michael Tinnin; daughters, Tammy Birdsong and husband Kent, and Tracy Comstock and husband Marc; grandchildren, Michelle Essary, Michael Remillard, Tiffany Powers, and Matthew Horton; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia (Ginny) Boggs and Suanne Wilson. He is preceded in death by his father, John Melaski; mother, Irene Melaski-Alexander; step father, Kenneth Alexander; and sister, Carole Denise Tucker. 

John Frank Melaski will be remembered with respect, admiration, and love by all who were privileged to share in his life. His memory continues to inspire and comfort those who carry forward pieces of his craft in their homes, and more importantly, hold his spirit in their hearts.
