It is with sadness the family of James Fermin Salas announce his passing on Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Ruidoso, NM.

James was born in Roswell, NM to Louise and Fermin Salas, on August 8, 1947. He attended and graduated from Hondo Valley Public Schools before enlisting in the Army where he served two tours in Vietnam. After his service to your Nation, he returned home to the Hondo Valley where he lived the remainder of his life. James worked as a skilled carpenter before retiring. His hobbies included horseback riding, roping, hunting, and most recently raising miniature donkeys and horses. He especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James is survived by his daughter Patricia Salas, son Philbert Salas (Amanda), son Danny Salcido (Angela). His grandchildren Alexandria, Elliot, Bo, Cooper, Irisha, Davin, Daniel, Payton, Mabon, Finn. Great grandchildren Iyan, Iven, Sabastian, and Jessica. He is also survived by numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James is proceeded in death by his parents Fermin and Louise Salas, brothers Bobby and Paul, and son James Jr.

Combined services will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in San Patricio on January 24, 2022, at 11:00 AM, graveside services will immediately follow at New Mexico State Veterans Cemetery in Ft. Stanton, NM.

Heavenly Father, I pause, mindful of the many blessings you have bestowed upon me. I ask that You will guide me in my life. Help me, Lord, to live my life in such a manner that when I make that last ride to the country up there, where the grass grows lush and the water runs cool, that You’ll take me by the hand and say “Welcome home Cowboy”……….Welcome home Cowboy.
