Obituary

Jack Allen Stack, 86, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in El Paso. Born on March 19, 1940, Jack was a resident of Tularosa, where he was known as a good-hearted and simple man who deeply loved life and his family.

Jack lived his life the only way he knew how — with dirty hands, a broke back, and sweat on his brow. He was a hardworking man whose strength, sacrifice, and dedication shaped the lives of those around him.

Though he often carried a stern and quiet demeanor, those who knew him best, knew he loved a good joke and was often the first to laugh. He was a proud patriot who faithfully served his country in the United States Army, where he trained drivers during his military service.

After the Army, Jack devoted himself to supporting his wife and two sons through years of hard work until the passing of his first wife. From that marriage, he was blessed with two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

Later in life, Jack married JoAnn Johnson and gained a large extended family that he loved deeply, including five daughters, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Jack finished his working career driving for CFI, where he earned recognition for more than three million safe driving miles — an accomplishment he was deeply proud of and one that reflected the care and commitment he brought to everything he did. No matter where the road took him, Jack always made time to stop the truck for a visit with family and friends anytime he could.

Even after retirement, Jack still wanted to be behind the wheel. He and JoAnn embraced a life of adventure, purchasing a fifth wheel and traveling across the United States. Along the way, they worked at campgrounds, shared stories, and formed many lifelong friendships. Their travels eventually led them to Tularosa, where they settled near family and friends.

Not one to slow down, Jack kept the wheels turning after settling in the area by purchasing a trike that he and JoAnn affectionately named “Bumblebee”. Together, they enjoyed countless rides through the scenic mountains and communities of southern New Mexico, especially trips to Cloudcroft and the surrounding areas. One of Jack’s favorite riding memories was participating in Alamogordo’s annual 4th of July Parade, an experience he treasured and often spoke about with pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Stack and Ina De Harsh Stack; his sons, Jack Stack Jr. and Jim Stack; and his sister, Sharon Stack.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Johnson Stack; sister, Ellen Stack Nichols; his daughters; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family members; and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Jack will be missed by many and remembered as a man who did not have much, but gave all that he had. His quiet strength, work ethic, patriotism, humor, and love for his family will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at Fort Stanton State Veterans Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on June 26, 2026.
