Ida Koehler

Ida Rosalene Halstead was born January 15, 1924 in Rensselaer, Indiana. She passed away September 4, 2016 residing at the Mescalero Care Center.

Ida graduated from Rensselaer High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Ida served from April 1945 until June 1949, being honorably discharged as Corporal Halstead.

Ida married Franklin Albert Koehler, January 17, 1949 in Chicago Illinois. They moved to the suburb of Des Plaines, built their home and raised 6 children. Frank precedes her in death on March 19, 2012. Ida is survived by her daughters, Darice Ambrose and Sandra Koehler; sons, Fredrick, Robert, Edward, and Thomas Koehler. Ida boasts eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ida and Frank moved to the Florida Keys and ran the Vista Linda Motel in 1970, later moving to Ruidoso, New Mexico managing the Sitzmark Chalet. Ida and Frank were active in their local American Legion, wherever they lived. During their retirement years, Mr. and Mrs. Koehler visited various campgrounds in Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Ida loved 'yacking', telling jokes, singing, dancing, and generally just being surrounded by friends, family, and other Veterans.

Funeral Services will be held at LaGrone Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow at the Fort Stanton Cemetary. Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
