Howard H. Hassell arrived April 21, 1928 in Escota, TX, and was born to Rolan Hassell and Kathleen Cotten. He started his company, Hassell Construction, in Seminole, TX where he built over 50 single family homes before moving to Ruidoso,NM in 1970, where he would build another 150 + starting in Alto around the developing golf course. With his wife and best friend of 66 years, Arveta, he built a family and a beautiful life.
Howard was a Jr. High basketball coach, assistant high school football coach, and History teacher as a young man. He owned a bowling alley and part of a race horse. He loved to compete and worked hard to perfect his game whether it be in bowling, basketball, football or golf, his lifetime favorite. Howard held Alto's club record on the back 9 for a number of years and competed in innumerable tournaments around New Mexico, Vegas and Laughlin. He was a great partner, and he and Arveta were a formidable team in square dancing, gin rummy and bridge.
Howard lost his son Tim in 2012, and his best girl, Arveta late in 2015. He is survived by his daughter Teri Button and her husband Rick, his grandchildren Aimee and Cody, great grandchildren Cheyenne, Shelby, Kristin, Andy, Jiber and Carolina, and great great grandchildren Gabrial, Ethan, Carter, Preston and Alexander.
We will miss his spirit, sense of humor, poetry, amazing barbeque skills, and most of all his love. "and the God of all good workmen shall put us to work anew"
