Homer Smith

Homer L. Smith, known to his family and friends as Roy had been a resident-patient a short time at the Mescalero Care Center before his death on Sunday, September 9, 2007. He was born July 16, 1922 to Jesse Homer Smith and Katherine Appleberry in Riverside, California. The family later moved to Long Beach, California where he was educated. He joined the U.S. Navy in World War II, and after he was honorably discharged he settled in Los Angeles, California. After several years of retirement in Los Angeles, he came to Ruidoso to visit his cousin, Florence Maul, in year 2000 and enjoyed the small town life so much he decided to become a permanent resident. he will be buried as he requested, whith his mother and father at Rose Hill Cemetery in Whittier, California. A family and friends memorial service will be held for Roy after the Christmas holiday.
