Harvey Twite

February 18, 1956 — May 20, 2019

Harvey L. Twite passed away of natural causes on May 20th at 9:35am in his home in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Harvey was born on February 18th, 1956 in Denver, Colorado to Harvey and Ilow Twite. Before completing high school, he had already developed a passion for radio broadcasting. He would stay up late at night building radios and practicing his radio voice until he got his first job in Monte Vista, Colorado in 1971 for a weekend show. He went on to do many great things before settling down as the popular broadcaster he is today.

Harvey started KEDU fifteen years ago and instantly became a part of the Ruidoso community. KEDU has under gone multiple changes but Harvey was there through it all.
"War of the Worlds" was one of Harvey's all time favorites. He made it a tradition to broadcast it every year on October 31, KEDU's birthday. In running the station, he supported many things in the community that were near and dear to him. He loved ESGR, football (Go Broncos! ), working with the police and fire deparment (being an honorary fireman himself), and keeping the public updated.

Harvey's love of music went beyond playing it on the radio, he also Dj'ed, played in various bands, and sang in the local community and church choirs. Harvey became the source of information for Ruidoso. In an interview Tim Keithley was quoted as saying "Harvey was Ruidoso".

Besides being the go to guy for information, he was the go to guy to brighten your day. He was the type of person who could sit down with anyone and become instant friends. Harvey was recognized and loved, even in other states. He could tell a story and make the whole room laugh. His kindness and compassion, immeasurable. Harvey never missed a chance to make the world a better place and never missed a chance for a little "wind therapy" while taking his motorcycle on the roads less traveled.

He is survived by his daughters Vivian Wilson, Stephanie Cerise, and Katherine Anne Devereaux, grandchildren Deanna, Chandra, and Sean, brothers John Swindell and Jerry Swindell, and sister Debbie Swindell and many cousins all which he loved dearly. Many considered Harvey family and family was incredibly important to him.

Services will be held on June 3rd, 2019 at 10:30am, at the Convention Center in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Special thanks to the community for going above and beyond in showing their support. It is obvious how much Harvey meant to anyone who was luckily enough to have known him. Flowers can be sent to LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso, New Mexico or donations can be made at the Washington Federal Bank.
