Harvey Stanford

Harvey Penn Stanford was born on October 1,1931 in Clovis, NM to Truman Bower Stanford and Rebecca Francis Gibson Stanford.

He went to school in Clovis, NM and after high school Harvey attended Southwest Jr. College in Keene, TX. He married Phyllis Ann Montgomery in Waco, TX on Aug 20,1950. They had 2 children, Gerald Wayne & Judy Kaye. Harvey then went into the US Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 and was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1960 and earned the National Defense Medal.

After working for Proctor & Gamble, he started his first car lot, T & S Motors, in 1971. He then went on to open Downtown Motors in 1983, a very successful used car business and a salvage yard in Irving, TX. He earned a degree in cosmetology, completed a course of study in basic radio electronics from Texas Trade School and completed courses in gunsmithing and small engine repair. Harvey loved learning.

On February 9,1991, he married Linda Lewis whom he met through a singles group at First Baptist Church in Euless, TX. He retired in 1996 and they moved to Ruidoso. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stanford of Ruidoso, son Gerald Stanford (wife Lee Ann) of Irving, TX, daughter Judy Johnson (husband Raymond) of Conroe, TX; two sisters - Maxine Marshall of Alamogordo, NM, Patsy Nicholas of Belen, NM; and a sister-in-law Mary Stanford of Belen, NM; two step-children- Tara Frierson (husband Steve) and Travis Thomas (wife Tracy) of Ruidoso; nine grandchildren- Casey Johnson Franklin and Kent Johnson (wife Lori) of Conroe, TX, Jordan Reynolds (husband Jesse Joe), Kayle Frierson and Hayden Frierson of Ruidoso, NM, James Thomas and Tyler Thomas of Arlington, TX, Christina Boston of Houston, TX and Christopher Estrada of Albuquerque, NM; eight great grandchildren - Cheyenne and Cierra Franklin, Emma Kate, Landry and Claire Elizabeth Johnson of Conroe, TX, Jaxson Frierson and Hendrix Reynolds of Ruidoso, NM and Thomas Boston of Houston, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be Saturday, October 27, at 2:00 P.M. at J Bar J Country Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to J Bar J Country Church - BOWL Ministry (BOWL stands for "Blessing Others With Love" and it is a fund to help the needy in the Ruidoso area).
