Gwendolyn Chico, a beloved member of her community, aged 71, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in her hometown of Mescalero, New Mexico. Born on January 29, 1955, Gwendolyn lived a life marked by love, family, and vibrant social connections.

Gwendolyn and her husband, Rayburn Chico, created many cherished memories together, particularly during their adventurous skiing trips with their daughters, as well as friends. Throughout her life, Gwendolyn was known for her engaging personality, often described as a social butterfly who delighted in the company of others. Her commitment to her appearance was a hallmark of her character; always making sure her makeup was done and her clothes were neat.

Gwendolyn was a passionate cook and enjoyed activities such as visiting casinos and playing bingo. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, fostering deep connections and creating lasting memories. Gwendolyn proudly lived a rodeo life with her husband and son; this experience was a highlight and a proud accomplishment in her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rayburn Chico; her sons, Wendell Chico, Wacey Chico, and Lyndon Chico; her daughters, Mandy Pesewonit, Teddi Chico, and Rudi Montoya; her grandchildren, Murray Chico-Pesewonit, Samyiah Chico, Nelli Chico, Bettina Chico, Anthony Montoya Jr., Tensley Rice, Alex Montoya, and Levin Fox, Randy Evans; her brothers, Allen Duffy, Elroy Duffy, and Austin Duffy; her sisters, Bernadine Scott, June Shaw, Christine Kozine, and Lorena Duffy; as well as her cherished fur babies, Tabby, the cat, and Oreo, the Chihuahua.

Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her father, Wendell Duffy Sr.; her mother, Sadie Duffy; her brother, Wendell Duffy Jr.; her sister, Wendolyn Duffy; her daughter, Kelli Rae Chico; and her granddaughter, Brandi Lea Little. She was also preceded by her best friend, Evadean Gallardo, whose companionship meant the world to her.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Gwendolyn's life. A viewing will be held on February 19, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso. Following the viewing, a Rosary will take place at St Joseph Apache Mission in Mescalero, NM, starting at 6:00 PM on the same day. A Mass celebrating her life will be held on February 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the same location.

Gwendolyn Chico will be remembered for her warmth, her love for family, and her vibrant spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to enrich the lives of those she touched.
