Gordon Williams, 97, of Phoenix Arizona, was born January 23, 1919 to his father Nasitima and his mother Gyshynim in Old Oraibi Arizona. He was a Hopi Indian and belonged to the Eagle Clan. He graduated from Phoenix Indian School in 1939; learning the trade of masonry; he then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. in 1944, was stationed in China and served four years and was honorably discharged in 1948.
He met his first wife and had his first daughter Flora Williams. His wife later died in childbirth. Gordon then married Sylvia Kaydahzinne of Mescalero, NM with whom he had three children; Albert Nasitima, of Phoenix Arizona; Edith Morgan, of Mescalero NM and is preceded in death by his youngest daughter Eileen Williams of Mescalero NM. He was the fourth child of six children. Gordon had three brothers and two sisters, who have all preceded him in death.
He was a very generous and selfless individual; a man of wisdom, knowledge, and discipline. Gordon enjoyed the outdoors, loved traveling, hunting, sports, and had a love for reading. Gordon loved his grandchildren very much. He supported them in education, extracurricular activities and encouraged them always to do their best in all they did.
He has 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren; Kirk and Patty Lewis; Rana Hall, all of Fort McDowell Arizona. Also, Sylvia and Bobbie Morgan of Mescalero, NM.
Our Father and Grandfather will surely be missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mescalero, NM. Funeral Mass will also be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 9:30 am. Burial will be at the Mescalero Cemetary.
