Capitan, NM

Services for Gary Lee Ryen, 57, of Capitan NM will be held at One Church in Ruidoso Downs on April 9th at 10 am.

Gary completed his journey of life on this earth on Friday, March 25, 2022, while surrounded by his loving family at Lincoln County Medical Center in Ruidoso, NM following a battle with cancer.

He was born July 28, 1964 in Clovis, NM to Floyd Kenneth Ryen and Adelina Maria Montano Ryen. On February 14th, 1987 Gary married Sharla Kingston in Portales, NM. Gary served in the U.S. Army as a Cannon Crewman, Field Artillery Division. He was honorably discharged on November 2nd 1987. After his service to the US Army Gary worked for many years in the construction field. He was the father to six amazing children whom he loved very much with all his heart. One of the things he loved most was camping with his family.

Gary had a great sense of humor and his laugh was infectious and will be missed greatly. He left behind a few laughs for everyone, during the past year he stated that his life could be summed up in one sentence … “well that didn’t go as planned”, he also said “my luck I will be reincarnated as me again”. He was a believer that life’s journey was not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting “What a ride!!”

Survivors include his wife Sharla Ryen, three daughters Natasha (Andrew) Ryen of Capitan, Seante Ryen of Ruidoso, Devon Ryen of Capitan. Three sons Julian (Christina) Rue of Alamogordo, Joshua (Mistry) Rue of Mescalero, Chance (Ana) Ryen of Alamogordo. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings, Wayne (Angie) Ryen of Ruidoso Downs, Kenny (Michelle) Ryen of Ruidoso, Steven (Diana) Ryen of Roswell, Sheila Ryen of Hobbs, Allen Ryen of Ruidoso, Cody (Eva) Ryen of Tucumcari, Chana (Jerry) Coronado, Bianca Baca of Maryland, nieces raised as siblings Ashley (Nathan) Chavarria of Carlsbad and Candy Moralez of Maryland, close cousin Donna Carter of Portales and close family friend Orlando Cervantes.
