Garrett A. Trent passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, in Ruidoso, New Mexico, at the age of 79. Born on March 14, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, Garrett’s life was marked by a deep passion for the arts, a steadfast commitment to education, and service to his country.
Garrett’s early years were shaped by his upbringing in Baltimore, where he was born to Harold and Lucille Rearick. In the 1960s, Garrett served his country honorably in the Army, stationed in Germany. A gifted artist and educator, Garrett dedicated himself to the fine arts, shaping young minds and inspiring creativity as a professor at several colleges, including Miami University in Ohio. Beyond the classroom, Garrett pursued his love for the fine arts by running several successful art boutiques.
Garrett’s legacy endures in his surviving family members: his brother David Rearick; his sisters Connie Rearick Schultz and Barbara Vanscoy; his nephews David Vanscoy and David Schultz; and his nieces Elizabeth Vanscoy and Samantha Rearick. He is also remembered with love by those who predeceased him: his father Harold Rearick, his mother Lucille Rearick, his brothers William and Brandon Rearick, and his sister Sandra Herzik.
Through his artistry and teaching, Garrett made a difference in many lives. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the creative pursuits and enduring values he championed throughout his life.
