Gareth Johnson, 68, of Mescalero passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 in Mescalero. He was born March 26, 1951 at Mescalero to Arthur and Clora Johnson and had lived in Mescalero most of his life.
He graduated from Albuquerque Indian School and then attended S.I.P.I. in Albuquerque, while in Albuquerque he drove a school bus for the Albuquerque Public Schools. He worked for the maintenance department at the Tribal Community Center and was a Cowboy at Cow Camp #1. He had served in the Army and attended the Mescalero Reformed Church.
He is survived by, his mother, Clora Mae Johnson; sisters, Perida Tso, Debra Enjday, Annalene Blake, Francine Kanseah and Elsa Marden; brothers, Albert Johnson and Vincent Hubbard Sr.; children, Gareth Johnson Jr. and companion Billie Dees, Cynthia Johnson-Valdez and husband, Jerod Valdez and Michelle Johnson and companion Gregorio Rubio; two aunts, Gina Notsinneh and Anita Yahnaki and uncle, Woody Wilson; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. with the prayer service at 6:00 P.M. at the Mescalero Reformed Church where the funeral service will be on Thursday, July 11, at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Mescalero Cemetery.
