Gara Cowen

Gara Nan (Plummer) Cowen, known as Pete to her friends and family passed away September 22, 2015.
She was born in Mills County, Texas, to John H. and Lillian B. Plummer on November 7, 1923.
She lived most of her life in Rankin, Texas, where she raised her six children.

In 1983 she met and married Glendon Cowen. They spent many happy summers in the Ruidoso/Capitan area, permanently relocating there in 2001.
Pete is survived by her husband Glendon (Palidon) Cowen of the family home; one daughter Sandy Dawson of Hurley, New Mexico; three sons: Sam R. Cowen of Ft. Stockton, TX; John R. Cowen of Jayton, TX; and Sherrod Wayne Cowen of Wills Point, TX.
Mama Pete always said she was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John & Lillian Plummer and two sons: Kenneth Cowen and Charles Ross Cowen.
A seamstress extraordinaire, Mama Pete loved sewing for friends and family right up to this last illness.

There have been many that have been part of Mama Pete's life that called her "Mother, Mama Pete, Granny Pete and Ma Pete/' Wishing to remember everyone and recognize them as well, just know that Pete loved you all and considered you family.

She will be missed by many.

Her funeral service will be Monday, Sept. 28, at 2:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ruidoso with burial to follow at Ft. Stanton Cemetery.
