Frances Degner

Frances L. Degner was born August 28, 1927 in Carrizozo to Carl E. and Emma Steffen Degner. She went to be with her Lord on April 5, 2010 in Alamogordo at the age of 82. She was a lifetime resident of Carrizozo. Frances was the 7th of 8 children born to the Degners. She attended Carrizozo Public Schools and at the age of 10 she developed a heart condition which she lived with until her death.

Frances was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Carrizozo where she was baptized. She was a member of the Womens Society of Christian Service for many years. She served the church in any capacity that might need her which included preparing communion or holding a church office. Frances was a member of Assembly 7 Order of the Rainbow for Girls and then became a member of Chapter 27 Order of the Eastern Star, she held offices in both organizations.

Frances had a special God given talent which was her art work. She loved to create paintings, cards, etc. with her creative hands. She won several art contest bringing home blue, red or white ribbons. She shared this talent by teaching young people about art media.

Frances took time through her lifetime to spend quality time with her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She took them to the park, a movie, spent an afternoon sewing doll clothes, preparing a tea party, attending ball games or band and piano recitals. Frances loved her flowers and enjoyed tending to her cats. She was a family historian and kept records in both writing and pictures.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Emma Degner sisters, Alice Degner King, Agnes Degner Hein, Henrietta Degner McDaniel brothers, Alvin George Degner and Carl Degner Jr. and one niece, Barbara Embrey Wickliffe. She is survived by one sister, Louise Embrey of Grants, NM and one brother, Eugene Degner and his wife Sharon of Alamogordo 15 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 9, at 3:00 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church in Carrizozo with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Johanna Anderson.

The family has requested memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church in Carrizozo.
