Frances Virginia Berry was born January 13,1931 and died December 30,2023 at the age of 92. She was born in Meadow, Texas and lived on the family farm between Meadow and Brownfield. Growing up, she went to school and worked on the farm.
Frances’s parents were William Thomas Bell and Ollie Wilkerson Bell. She had two sisters, Emma Lou and Mattie Sue. She attended Meadow High School where she played basketball, graduating in 1949.
After high school Frances moved to Lubbock, Texas, where she attended Texas Tech University and worked at Luby’s Cafeteria. She married Jack Christie, and they had three sons; Lynn, Blake and Keith. Frances began working at the Credit Bureaus in Brownfield and Lamesa, Texas. She finished her career at Texas Tech as the Administrative Assistant to the Registrar.
Frances married Robert Berry in 1969 and upon their retirement moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico, in 1986. Robert and Frances were members at Alto Lakes Country Club for over thirty years. She volunteered and read to children in the Ruidoso elementary school and served the retired and Senior Volunteer Program [RSVP} for twenty years. They were members of First Baptist Church, Ruidoso, where they both sang in the choir.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ollie Bell; her sisters Emma Lou Ryan and Mattie Sue Joplin; and her husband Robert Berry. Frances is survived by her three sons, Lynn (Shari) Christie, Keith (Diana) Christie, and Blake Christie. Grandchildren are Emily Olivarez (husband Adrian), Sarah Wyatt (husband Brandon), Thomas, Samuel (wife Jennifer), Daniel (wife Anna), Bruce, and Samantha Christie. Great- grandchildren are Grayson Olivarez, Seth, Jacob, Noah Wyatt, Nathaniel, Clark, Harleigh, and Diana Christie.
A graveside service will be held 10:00am, Janurary 29th, 2024, at the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock, TX
