Eyvonne Chapin

August 28, 1940 — November 10, 2017

Eyvonne Kay McKinley Chapin was born August 28, 1940, in Clovis, New Mexico, and passed away Friday, November 10 in El Paso, Texas.

It was important to Eyvonne to be useful. She never sat, but she had some mending, reading, or corresponding to do. There was something to be learned in every situation and a little joy to be found in each circumstance. She was an artist; often painting, crafting, or sewing as a gift, to bring beauty to a corner of the room, or a smile to someone's face.

Eyvonne loved to travel and would, when her children were young, go on family road trips across the country. She saw 73 countries in her 77 years-each with an amusing or interesting tale. She never let anything hold her back.
She was a proud member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization an international organization whose mission is to educate and uplift women at every stage in their lives-and of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Eyvonne received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from New Mexico State University in 1962. She became a certified Dental Laboratory Technologist in 1979 at the Idaho Vocational Institute and remained in that career for nearly 20 years.

Eyvonne is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, John Arthur Chapin of Ruidoso, New Mexico; sons, Gregory Scott Chapin, of Phoenix, Arizona; Rodney Grant Chapin and wife Erin, of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jordan Symone, Emily Grace, and Michael Gideon; sister, Lois McKinley Melton of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and several cousins.

Eyvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Richard Hall and Ernestine Ashley McKinley, both of Melrose, New Mexico; son, Michael Alan Chapin of Boise, Idaho; sister, Janita, and brother-in-law, Bob Smith, of Pueblo, Colorado; brother-in-law, Bill Melton of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
