Eddie Leon Parker, 83, passed away peacefully May 17, 2026, leaving behind a profound legacy of service, education, and deep devotion to his family and community. Born on September 5, 1942, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he grew up with a tremendous work ethic, graduating from Portales High School in 1958. He went on to proudly serve his country as a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. It was during his dedicated time in the Navy that he earned his lifelong nickname, "Fast Eddie." He achieved the rank of Lieutenant before being honorably discharged on June 30, 1977. A deeply meaningful highlight of his later years was taking part in the Honor Flight in 2019, an experience he treasured.

On March 18, 1971, Eddie married the love of his life, Donna Lee Brotherton, in Midland, Texas. Together, they shared 55 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and adventure. In 1973, they moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico, which became their permanent home. After spending his early career working diligently in the oil fields, Eddie found his true calling in education. He earned a Master’s Degree from Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) in Portales and embarked on a distinguished teaching career that touched lives across California, Artesia, and Ruidoso. He was a renowned DECA teacher who mentored countless students to incredible success at the state and national levels, with a major career highlight being the several first-place national finishers he coached. His exceptional impact on education was recognized on a grand stage in the 1990s when he was named a nominee for the prestigious Disney American Teacher Awards.

"Fast Eddie" remained a vibrant presence throughout his life, always active in many wonderful community events. His faith was central to his journey; he was a long-time member of the First Christian Church and later became a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso. Above all, Eddie was a devoted family man who was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Donna Lee Parker. He is also survived by his children, Sean Parker and his wife Jessica, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Kief, and Mandy Tucker and her husband Brandon. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee Steffner and her husband Jonas, Parker Johnson and his wife Lia, Shane Parker, Morgan Bowen and her husband Price, Jenna Herbert, Ashley Parker, Katie Tucker, Ella Smith and her husband Ryan, and Kenneth Tucker. He was incredibly proud of his precious great-grandchildren: Ellie, Owen, Rooster, Thompson, Livy, and Riggins. He also leaves behind his brothers, Ricky Parker and his wife Monika of Edgewood, New Mexico, and Kevin Parker and his wife Maureen of Washington State; several loving nieces and nephews; and many cousins whom he loved dearly like siblings. Eddie was preceded in death by his father, Harry Kenneth Parker; his mother, Gracial Williams Parker; his brother, Ancel Parker; and his grandmother, Ada Williams.
