After more than 60 years of ministering and dedicated service to the Lord, Douglas G. Brown died peacefully September 16, 2015 in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Born in Dunn, Texas to Henry Grady Brown and Agnes Ruth Thomas Brown, Doug grew up on the family's farm with his sister, Marjorie. After graduating from Dunn High School in 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He flew B24s and B17s as a 2nd Lieutenant Flight Officer Pilot through the end of WWII.
After the war, Doug answered God's call to ministry and entered California Baptist College and Theological Seminary in Covina, CA and became pastor of FBC Devore, CA. Upon graduation, he was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in FBC San Bernardino, CA June 8, 1955, and was called as pastor of FBC, Bronte, Texas. Three years later, he was called to FBC, Hamilton, Texas.
His work in Texas churches led to his call to be the Director of Church Stewardship at the Baptist General Convention of Texas in Dallas. He served for fourteen years teaching family money management and leading church financial development and stewardship.
In 1975, Doug married Millicent Ann Basore and moved to Ruidoso, NM. The couple joined FBC Ruidoso and Doug continued God's ministry as liaison for BGCT and Baptist Offering Envelop Service, as an interim pastor of Ruidoso Downs Baptist Church, as guest minister in and advisor to numerous New Mexico churches.
On February 9, 2014, at the age of 91, Doug delivered his last sermon and was honored for "60 Years of Faithful Service in Ministry" at First Baptist Church Ruidoso.
Doug's legacy includes his eldest daughter, Peggy Brown and her son McKennon Brown; daughter, Pamela Brown Shinogle, her husband Tim, and their two sons Ethan and Lane. Ethan and his wife, Melissa added Luke Douglas to this legacy.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 22, at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruidoso.
